What were some of your favorite games growing up?

I have loved video games for most of my existence. The first games I remember playing are Pajama Sam: No Need To Hide When It’s Dark Outside and Putt-Putt Travels Through Time. I played on a Nintento 64 for the first time at my friend’s house when I was 4. We spent many summer hours playing Mario Kart and I quickly developed a reasonable intimidation of Rainbow Road.

As I got a little bit older I was able to expand my own console collection to a PlayStation 2 and Nintendo GameCube. I played the heck out of Spyro, Crash Bandicoot, The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker, Sonic Adventure 2, Kingdom Hearts, Harvest Moon, Monkey Ball, and so many more. I loved to read growing up, and to me playing video games was just a more immersive way of reading a story. Games created so much curiosity in me, and I loved being able to escape my daily life by going on adventures in these virtual worlds.

How did you get into Hearthstone?

I tried Hearthstone for a very short period of time a few years back when I was in college. I wanted some affordable entertainment (or better yet, free) and I had seen one of my favorite variety streamers play Hearthstone Arena before. I had no idea what I was doing and couldn’t win a single casual game, so I quickly gave up on it.

I decided to give it another shot at the end of 2017. I wanted a continuous game I could play whenever and I was just too stressed out playing Battle Royale games. Hearthstone appealed to me because it had chill game mechanics while still requiring critical thinking. I had more patience with myself this time around and persevered through the uncomfortable stage of not knowing what was going on. I streamed Hearthstone when I was still very new to the game and was ecstatic to find a helpful and friendly community on Twitch to inspire me to get better. I know I have a lot more to learn about Hearthstone and I am excited to continue to do so. Hearthstone holds such a special place in my heart as one of my favorite games of all time.

Why did you decide to start streaming?

I discovered Twitch at a very difficult time in my life and streams helped take my mind of off daily stressors. I didn’t know many people in real life who played video games, so I was relieved to find online communities of people with similar interests as me. I loved how each stream I visited was like its own little world. After watching Twitch for a few years, I was feeling inspired and wanted to attempt to start my own community. I appreciate how streaming is a way to put yourself out there without actually going anywhere. As an introvert who values human connection but also loves doing activities best done alone, streaming is an absolute dream. I feel so lucky to be able to provide a little world for others to hang out in and feel comfortable and included.

What do you like to do offline?

Offline I like to hang out with my sassy rescue pup Luna, read books (mostly fiction but I’m attempting to dive into Sci-Fi/Fantasy), read and watch poetry, attempt to write poetry, watch movies and shows that I really should have seen a long time ago, photograph faces and places, and nap for way longer than recommended by most health professionals.

Brookewerm is an interesting name. How did you come up with it?

Some of my favorite screen names are those that make puns out of the person’s name. I was occasionally made fun of for my name being similar to “book” as a kid and I was a very studious gal growing up, so I decided to embrace it and make it into a snazzy name. The “worm” version was already taken so I made it “brookewerm” which I actually prefer! I like that it encapsulates part of my personality while also using my first name.

How did you first get introduced to the EO team members?

When I was still new to streaming, I was browsing the Hearthstone section for other new streamers and came across Eric’s stream. They were extremely friendly and super entertaining to watch. Eric raided me one day and brought lots of awesome people over to my stream, included Exiles. I loved that Exiles did a “Friendship Friday” and he was very helpful with Hearthstone related questions. These two wonderful streamers and the creation of EO led me to the other team members. I admire everyone on the team both as content creators and people, and I am beyond thankful to be surrounded by such kind and inclusive humans.

Please make sure to give brookewerm a warm welcome to the team! We’re excited to join forces, and strengthen our community, alongside such a great person.
